The difference between Low-Code and No-Code

To begin with, there is a significant distinction between No-Code and Low-Code. No-Code is typically geared toward “citizens,” or those unable to design software systems due to a lack of programming skills. No-Code is frequently referred to as “citizen development,” implying that anyone with no prior understanding of programming languages or software development philosophy may build software systems. Simple customer-facing frontends with some interaction with pre-defined services and simple database structures benefit from No-Code.
However, we’re still way off from being able to deliver complicated systems using No-Code, and I’m not sure we’ll ever get there. Besides, even No-Coders require low-level modules and components to interface with, often accomplished by collaborating with a “real” software developer who churns out these components for the “citizen” to orchestrate.

Citizen developer

A citizen developer is an employee who develops application capabilities for their own or others’ use, using tools that aren’t explicitly prohibited by IT or business divisions. A citizen developer not a job title or a specific job function, but a persona. They don’t report to IT, but to another business unit or functional team.
